Three Important Benefits of the New NX Safety Tools with Sysmac 1.45

Omron NX Safety tools
Many safety systems add complexity to the applications into which they’re designed. However, it doesn’t need to be this way. With the right tools, you can streamline your safety system to improve flexibility and align it with you specific needs.

Omron is introducing a set of brand-new NX safety tools with Sysmac 1.45 that are designed to reduce the complexity of the average safety system and improve overall ease of use. Let’s take a look at how they achieve this.

1. They reduce installation time with a Batch Setting option.

System integrators (SIs) who are developing CIP Safety solutions often need to collect data from each safety device and manually upload it to the safety PLC to complete setup. This is quite time-consuming, and can even lead to hazardous situations if communication type misconfigurations occur between third-party devices and the safety PLC.

Furthermore, robotic SIs find it difficult to protect for the custom configuration of future modifications in the safety PLC. During project commissioning, communication type changes may be required multiple times, and each change can take several hours depending on the amount of CIP Safety devices present.

The new NX safety tools dramatically reduce installation time with a Batch Setting feature that enables CIP Safety connection type changes to be made as a group and retrieves the safety signature from each CIP Safety device. This speeds up commissioning and improves safety management overall.

2. They support multilingual commenting without affecting the safety signature.

When OEMs and system integrators send machines abroad, they often need to deliver information in the destination’s local language. This requirement is at odds with the desire of global companies to reduce programming efforts related to comments in the local language without changing the safety signature.

The NX safety tools support the addition of comments to the safety program in four different languages without affecting the safety signature in Sysmac 1.45 and above. This makes it much easier for OEMs and SIs to manage multilingual comments for global expansion needs.

3. They add flexibility to your CIP Safety solution.

Flexibility is important in any application. When it comes to safety, a major concern shared by control engineers and designers is reducing wiring in their automation projects to obtain maximum flexibility on the factory floor. Messy, cumbersome wiring systems make application reconfiguration very difficult and inhibit changeovers.

In addition, many safety systems have limited troubleshooting capabilities when integrating third-party devices using generic EDS files from manufacturers, and end-users looking to develop flexible manufacturing systems often have limited safety platform options that allow them to mix third-party devices from different vendors.

With the NX safety tools, you can take advantage of a new EDS tool embedded in Sysmac for effortless and quick integration of CIP Safety devices. And, you can import/export CIP Safety devices created in Sysmac to new projects with ease. Much less R&D support is needed to develop your applications in new ways.

Powerful AI to Match Human Visual Sensitivity

FH Series with AI
Due to a shortage of skilled workers and rising labor costs, manufacturers are under pressure to automate processes relying on human senses.  Omron’s FH Series vision system now includes advanced defect detection with artificial intelligence to mitigate these issues.

With the upgraded FH Series, Omron is helping manufacturers automate vision inspection via a lightweight, easily integrated solution.  Omron’s FH Series vision system includes an AI-based inspection tool known as AK Fine Matching.  It trains by reviewing images of various good products and builds a model.  Then, AI Find Matching detects only the features not found on good products as defect.

Benefits of the FH Series with AI defect detection

Captures defects with human-like sensitivity

The AI Scratch Detection Filter highlights scratches on different surface types without needing to learn from images or adjust any parameters, offering manufacturers a ready-to-deploy solution.

Identifies good products like experienced inspectors

The FH Series determines acceptable variation tolerances using the AI Fine Matching tool that learns from non-defective product images to quickly acquire the “expertise” that inspectors develop over months of time.

Can be incorporated into any environment

Most high-end vision solutions require a similarly high-end environment, but Omron’s lightweight solution provides user-friendly processing items that are integrated into the FH Series hardware.

Omron LVS-9585 Barcode Verifier

The LVS-9585 handheld DPM barcode verifier adds advanced lighting options and powerful software functionality. The LVS-9585 can test both DPM parts as well as printed labels to a broad variety of global application standards, and provides comprehensive quality analysis and reporting features.

The LVS-9585 is a high-performance handheld solution for offline barcode verification to ISO/IEC and GS1 standards. Featuring a high-resolution 5.0 megapixel camera, the LVS-9585 reads and analyzes linear (1D) and two-dimensional (2D) codes up to 76.19 mm (3.0 in.) wide and up to 57.15 mm (2.25 in.) tall. 1D and 2D direct part marks (DPM) of up to 44 mm x 44 mm (1.75″ x 1.75″) can be verified to MIL-STD-130, ISO, and GS1 standards.

The LVS-9585 verifies multiple symbologies, including any combination of linear, 2D (Data Matrix, QR Code, and Aztec), and stacked linear (PDF417, MicroPDF, and Composite).

Redi-Rail Linear Guide

Redi-Rail Linear Guide

Redi-Rail is a great alternative to profile rail, where high speeds, precision, and moderate load applications are required. It offers strength, ease of installation, and corrosion resistance making it the perfect linear motion solution across a broad range of applications such as automation, machine transfer, and material handling. Aluminum rails are integrated with hardened steel races for a strong, yet lightweight design. Carriages are sealed against contamination and engineered with double-row bearing rollers that glide over particles. Redi-Rail is a great alternative to profile rail, where high speeds, precision, and moderate load applications are required.

This is one of several articles that explores the properties and features of Redi-Rail linear systems. In this article we offer a brief overview with focus on our new 4- and 5-wheel carriage options and their implications on cantilevered loads and cost. Redi-Rail linear guides consist of a slider or carriage riding along an extruded aluminum rail. Aluminum rails are integrated with hardened steel races for a strong, yet lightweight design. They are also end joinable for long length applications, ensuring a sturdy design with rigidity and precision. Running parallelism is held to ±.001’’ (.025mm) for the length of the guide rail.

Red-Rail sliders or carriages consist of durable anodized aluminum with three, four, or five gothic arch rollers that are offset and trapped between the round inner races of the linear rail. They are sealed against contamination and engineered with double-row bearing rollers that glide over particulates along the rail. Redi-Rail linear guides are available in commercial-grade inch, or in higher precision metric systems that are equipped with wipers and patented side pre-load adjustment (wipers optional on inch series).
