OTP Industrial Solutions President and CEO Phil Derrow Featured in “Smart Business” Magazine

Phil Derrow, the President and CEO of OTP Industrial Solutions is featured in the December 2011 “Smart Business Columbus”, both on the cover and in the feature article by Dennis Seeds “Keeping the Faith: How Phil Derrow Invested During the Recession to Set Ohio Transmission Up for Growth.”. The article explains how Derrow used his belief that the recession would bottom out and that the future would improve to take action and put the company back on the growth track.

In the piece, Derrow was quoted as saying, “Continuously invest in yourselves and your company. I make a big deal about the fact that investment is a continuous and ongoing process, and it is an essential statement of a belief in the future. If you believe based on knowledge that recessions always end, then you continue to invest. It’s no more complicated than that.”

Along with rebranding Ohio Transmission and Pump Co. into OTP Industrial Solutions, creating a new logo and website and investing in employees and a new factory for Air Technologies, Derrow focused on the human factor– managing during a recession.

“We have 360 people now, and you can’t manage through such a challenging period without engaging the people in the organization. We believe in being open and honest with our people and telling them what’s going on, telling them the company’s position, telling them our strategy and making them part of the process from start to finish.” Derrow explained.

What was the result? The annual revenue for 2011 will finish more than 60% above that of 2008, market share has grown and the company has increased employment by 10% during the same period– 380 associates across eight states.

OTP Expands Finishing Systems Design Capabilities

OTP Industrial Solutions has expanded its finishing and dispensing system design capabilities with the recent hiring of four additional finishing specialists in Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee.

OTP has been a finishing system supplier for more than three decades, including paint and powder applications, precision flow and pressure control systems, paint booths, wash booths, ovens, piping systems, conveyor systems, sheet metal enclosures, design and automation. “OTP designs, installs and supports a wide range of finishing and fluid dispense applications, especially paints, lubricants, and high viscosity sealants,” states Steve Milhoan, Finishing Specialist.

In concert with the additional engineering resources, OTP expanded its business relationship with the manufacturer of Kremlin, Sames, Johnstone and Rexson finishing products. Kremlin supplies pumps, spray guns and related equipment for the application of powder, paint, sealant and adhesives. Sames offers electrostatic spray guns and rotary atomizer equipment for the application of powder and liquid paint. Johnstone Pump and Rexson Pump provide pumping, dispensing, and metering equipment for manual, automatic and robotic operation with high viscosity materials.

OTP Wins Honda Supplier of the Year Award

OTP Industrial Solutions accepted Honda’s 2010 MRO Supplier of the Year Award for power transmission products, including mechanical and fluid power products, bearings, cylinders, pumps, gearboxes and valves.

At an awards conference encompassing all Honda manufacturing operations in Ohio and Indiana, Honda presented its Supplier of the Year awards for excellence in key performance areas of safety, quality, cost, development and management. OTP Industrial Solutions was one of only twelve suppliers recognized with an award out of approximately 5000 total MRO suppliers.

OTP now shares product pictures and application pictures on Facebook. “Since we support such a broad range of technical products and solutions, application pictures can help our customers see other solutions and understand more of the technical capabilities of our associates,” states Jack Grote, Chief Operating Officer. “So far, we have created separate photo albums for pumps, pneumatic, power transmission, electrical, pump repair, and finishing products.”

OTP Announces Charity Partnership

COLUMBUS, OHIO – OTP Industrial Solutions and Air Technologies® are pleased to announce a charity partnership with Flying Horse Farms, an affiliate of Paul Newman’s Hole in the Wall Camps.

During introductory meetings recently orchestrated at all 15 company locations, OTP and Air Technologies® associates donated and pledged almost $11,500. Combined with the company match of all associates’ donations, this is well on the way to attaining the first year goal of $25,000 donation.

“We are excited to come together to help these kids,” stated Vicki Kilbourne, Director of Human Resources. “This is one more way to bring life to our core value of Balance.”

Flying Horse Farms is a free camp for children who have serious illnesses. They provide a traditional camp experience while they also support their individual medical needs. Currently under construction in Mt. Gilead, Ohio, the Flying Horse Farms camp will open and host its first campers this summer.

Flying Horse Farms is a provisional member of the Association of Hole in the Wall Camps. As the world’s largest family of camps for children with serious medical conditions, the Association of Hole in the Wall Camps offer campers the chance to restore hope and recapture their childhood through therapeutic recreation, intentional programming and year-round support that provides encouragement, motivation and confidence.

In addition to the donations and pledges, OTP and Air Technologies® associates plan to hold fundraisers and events throughout the year including a silent auction, bake sales, and a trip to the Camp later this summer.

Twenty-two OTP associates participated in various Omron product training sessions during the past month, including two-day off-site Omoron Sales Solutions Seminars, week-long hands-on Top Gun motion and vision training, 16 eLearning on-line modules, and four on-site product training sessions.
